Weiss Schwarz Deck Profile: Fate Rin/Archer

Greetings! Railgunfan75 here with another deck profile. This time the featured series will be Fate with my version of the Rin/Archer Deck-type. This deck is a Japanese mono red deck featuring only cards with Rin and Archer. It should be noted that some of the cards in the deck are from sets not available in English.  However, the Rin/Archer deck type is still viable in English even without these cards, you just need to substitute a few cards. To make it easier for the English players, the cards only available in Japanese will be in bold font. All images and translations are from http://www.heartofthecards.com.  So without any further delay, let’s get started!

Deck Strategy

The deck’s level o game contains much of the deck’s utility. The level offers the deck’s main way to sustain field with the global clock encore, a way to pump other characters in SD Archer, a nice spammable brainstorm, and a good hand fixer/plusing card in “Successor of Tohsaka” Rin. The Rin reverser is the main and only beater at level 0. At level 0, the main strategy is to play the clock encore assist and any of the other zeroes in the front row.The level reverser in particular can be used to kill any opponents zero and encored to either buffer damage of attack another turn depending on when it dies. The brainstormer can be used in the event that you are stuck at level 0 for multiple turns and need to pay out climaxes.  This deck has a cheap level 1 game and prefers to get to level 1 first, so it doesn’t mind getting rushed a bit in the first few turns.

At level 1, the deck hopes to have the Rin Climax combo in hand. Ideally the deck wishes to reach level 1 first (as many do), so the opponent will still have level 0’s on the board making the climax combo easier to execute. The clock encore assist really comes in hand during this level as back row typically won’t provide much assist power, just utility. It is worth noting that the level 1 game can get pretty sizable on offense however. The 1/0 Archer works great for this if you have an extra one in hand. The deck does have access to much more of it’s tech at level 1. The Ruby Brainstorm serves as a nice hand fixing option from the deck. In addition, the climax combo option allows you to potentially bring out Rin Average One a level early which should have some sustainability at level 1 (barring anti change) or turn into any of the other level 1s if you need them.

Level 1 is also where the damage gauntlet can begin because of the possibility of early summoning Rin Average One or Playing Rin Grandr Shooter. Grandr Shooter is the optimal play as it’s effect is basically free if you have two backrow characters. The assist does only cover level 2 or higher characters, so it won’t help your front row characters survive. If you really need to sustain field then the clock encore assist can help with that.

The Level 2 strategy is relatively simple- keep generating stock with the costless characters, keep up the damage with Grandr Shooter and if you fullfill the condition, play Rin for Victory and set up your level 3 game. Rin Average one is also useful at this level as it’s two effects can also help with the damage push depending on the scenario. The burn works nice if you have the climax as the climax pays the cost essentially (which is the same as the one needed for the level 1 combo) or if there are weak stragglers on the field, the top decking effect works great. You can also use the deck’s other utility to set up the endgame as well.

At level 3, the deck has multiple means of dealing extra damage to end the game quickly. “Heroic Spirit” Archer can be used in those scenarios where you need to push for high amounts of damage to end the game. Using the decks other top checking effects are useful when playing this card as knowing the top card of the deck can help you determine whether you will be burning or not. The damage output of this card varies but even if you hit for lower damage with this card the possibility of flushing out an additional climax is always useful. The Rin and Archer climax combo is included for two reasons. The first is that the heal ability can be useful to heal off a damage or two. Since the deck can be heavy on using the clock encore effects, the ability to heal at level 3 helps especially if you get to level 3 before your opponent. Our final level 3 card “Rin for Victory” can still be useful at level 3 because of the salvage effect. Just as is the case when playing at level 2, this card can pull your other finishing options from the waiting room.

The usefulness of some other cards carries over to this level as well. The level 1 Rin Grandr Shooter is really useful at this level as the Top decking ability for no stock works really well to add an additional damage. Since the Rin & Archer climax combo burns on attack, it is possible to top deck a character and deal that as a guaranteed burn damage. The level 2 discussed earlier Rin Average 1 is another option if you have the stock soul climax instead of the gate in hand.

Strenghts and Weakneeses

This deck has huge potential to end the game quickly. Starting at lvl 1 Rin Grandr Shooter is a cost effective way to push for additional damage. One possible extra damage a turn adds up over time and extra damage given at level 1 can make all of the difference when the game reaches level 3.The damage potential keeps up throughout level 2 and 3. Because of this, the deck does have to ability to come back from a damage deficit rather easily. The ability to push for damage and do it cheaply can let it have a good game even against better decks. The endgame is the deck’s main strength and can turn the tide on a game quite easily. The deck has a good free level 1 climax combo with a stock soul climax which can effectively set up your mid to late game. The deck does have a few ways to get characters to high attack numbers on offense and on your turn can deal with a fair amount of level 1 characters. In addition, the clock encore assist can help you sustain field if used wisely. Finally most of the cards in the deck either because of traits or name work seamlessly with one another. With this deck type if the card is a Rin or Archer and doesn’t require the Caldabog II event to function, it will function well in the deck. In other words, there is lot of flexibility in the deck building process.

For the deck’s  weaknesses, decks with anti salvage can really cause trouble for this deck. Since the deck doesn’t have any non brainstorm search options, salvaging is the main way for the deck to sustain or add to hand. If the deck is unable to do that via anti salvage or have bad luck, then the deck can have a problem maintaining hand and field. The characters can also get pretty vulnerable on defense so care is needed when playing cards especially at level 1.Decks that can wall up can really slow down the damage race. Since the deck does a lot of damage to itself, keeping field presence on defense can be important. As such, when facing a walled field siding and maybe playing a climax is the only option in that scenario.  Also decks with anti burn or anti damage really can hinder the decks chances as the only form of extra attacks come in the burn effects. Also excessive soul triggers can negate the top decking damage by pushing too hard and forcing a damage cancel.

Overall, this deck is a lot of fun to play and certainly can win you some games. The damage potential of the deck is insane and you are rarely out of a game when playing this deck. The deck just requires good decision making, careful play, and needs to avoid bad luck scenarios. This deck can be inconsistent but when it works, taking you opponent from 2/5 to level 4 can be a lot of fun. Also the Rin/Archer synergies can really help this deck type out over the course of the game. Plus it’s Rin and Archer- enough said.  I recommend that you give this deck a try, and if you have some alternatives that you think I should please comment below.
