Greetings! Railgunfan75 with a long over due Weiss Schwarz post.. This time I will be start to discuss one of the biggest set release of 2017, Re:Zero. Re Zero is certainly a popular set and one which has a lot of interesting things to offer. For those of you unfamiliar with how these set overviews work, the set overviews are divided by color and I pick approx. 10 cards from cards from each color an discuss them. This set has 3 colors only (no green) so there will be 3 posts. All card images and translations are from heartofthecards.com. So without any further delay, let’s get started!

Trait 1: 魔法 (Magic) Trait 2: メイド (Maid) |
[A] [(1) Put the top card of your Library in your Clock] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, you may pay cost. If so, search your Library for up to 1 Level 1 or lower Character, reveal it, put it in your hand, and shuffle your Library. [A] When this attacks, you may put the top card of your Library in the Waiting Room. If it’s a Climax card, draw a card, and discard a card from your hand to the Waiting Room. |
The first card which will be discussed is one that honestly is a bit over-rated. This card is good but I don’t feel that it is best card in the set like some people. For the positives:
-It allows you to easily set up your level 1 game.
-It does so by adding a card to hand verses trading cards.
-This card can potentially give you a hand fixing option.
Now on to the negatives:
-Becomes pretty much irrelevant level 1 or after.
-Cannot help you with the late game setup in case you can’t execute climax combo at level 1.
Taking this into account, this card is certainly a worthwhile inclusion in a deck. There are a lot of postive effects to this card and it will help any deck that it is included in. However, I don’t think it warrants a 4 of inclusion in the deck. This set does have other tech which could take up useful level 0 slots in conjunction with this. This card does my recommendation as a nice tech in card.

Trait 1: 魔法 (Magic) Trait 2: 精霊 (Elemental) |
[A] When this attacks, if “Starting Life in Another World From Scratch” is in the Climax Zone and you have 3 or more other Characters with either ::Magic:: or ::Weapon::, look at up to 4 cards from top of your Library and search for up to 1 Character with either ::Magic:: or ::Weapon::, reveal it, put it in your hand, put the rest in the Waiting Room, and this gains +1000 Power for the turn |

Trait 1: None Trait 2: None |
[C] All your Characters gain +1000 Power and +1 Soul. |
Here we have an insanely strong climax combo. This combo plusses to your hand and lets you cycle through your deck. The conditions for pulling off the combo are insanely easy. The condition of three or more Magic or weapon characters is really insignificant- if you have a field then you can pull off this combo. All of the relevant cards in the set have one of these two traits so the trait restriction doesn’t mean much. Also that opens pretty much everything except climaxes and events as search targets.
This combo can net you anything in the top 4 of your deck for zero cost. Yes you are restricted to what is on the top of your deck but you are paying nothing for this effect. I can also attest that the ability to remove an additional 3 cards from the deck is great. This has turned games around in which I was climax screwed early. Also with the power from the book climax and the combo, this card can get to a respectable 8K on attack which will take care of opposing characters. The climax being a book is fine as it if it were a stock soul, the combo would be too broken. I mean an extra stock plus milling through your deck plus a card to hand would be too much. Great combo and a great centerpiece to any deck, you shouldn’t have any problem setting up your endgame with this combo. Easy 4 of inclusion in a deck.

Trait 1: 魔法 (Magic) Trait 2: メイド (Maid) |
[C] If there are 2 or fewer Climax cards in your Waiting Room, this gets -1 Level while in your hand. [C] For each Marker under this, this gains +1000 Power. [A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, you may put the top card of your Clock in the Waiting Room. [A] When the Battle Opponent of this becomes Reversed, you may choose a Character with either ::Magic:: or ::Weapon:: in your Waiting Room and put it face-down under this as Marker. |
This is arguably one of the best profiles for an early summon in the game. The early summon condition is pretty easy to obtain and is generally the preferred early summon condition. The heal option at level 2 is always welcome as well. Where this card shines though is it’s ability to snowball power and compression. This set has many options for cycling through a deck quickly, so refreshing with this card on the field is certainly viable. Even 2 or 3 markers removed from a newly refreshed deck with the marker ability can be critical to surviving that extra turn at level 3. This is made even stronger by the fact that you pick the markers underneath it. Also once there are a few markers under it, this card will get pretty big and tough to reverse even by level 3s. A good card on it’s own but in the context of set, this card really shines.

[C] If you have 3 or more other Characters with either ::Magic:: or ::Weapon::, this gains +1500 Power and the following ability. “[A] When the Battle Opponent of this becomes Reversed, you may Send that Character to Memory.” [A] [(2) Discard a card from your hand to the Waiting Room, put 1 of your other Characters from the Stage in the Waiting Room] This ability activates up to once per turn. During the turn this is placed from hand to the Stage, when the Battle Opponent of this becomes Reversed, you may pay cost. If so, choose a “Puck, Great Spirit” in your Waiting Room and put it in any Slot on the Stage. |

Trait 1: 魔法 (Magic) Trait 2: 精霊 (Elemental) |
[C] If you have another Character with “Emilia” in name, this gains +1 Level and +2500 Power. [A] When this becomes Reversed in battle, put this on the bottom of the Library |
This is the primary game ending option for Emilia-centric decks and it is a good one. A pseudo double attacker which does not require a climax to do so. With Emilia’s on continuous effect, a 2k assist and other power pumps Emilia can get quite big making the on reverse effect fairly easy to pull off. This effect also bypasses anti-burn and hex proof cards. The second half of the combo, Puck Great Spirit is also a solid level 1 play. Meeting the Emilia requirement to turn it into a lvl 2 6500 power character is incredibly easy and it can come out at level 0 with the next card discussed. There are admittedly downsides to this combo. While the card gets fairly big, it is susceptible to counters and there are a few sets where the level 3s just get too big to reverse. While the set has many mill and discard posibilities, it is also possible that Puck is not in the waiting room when you get to level 3 such as immediately after refresh. Despite these drawbacks, the combo is still a good engame option.

Trait 1: 魔法 (Magic) Trait 2: 精霊 (Elemental) |
[C] During your Opponent’s turn, all your other Characters gain +500 Power. [S] BRAINSTORM [(1) Rest this] Flip over the top 4 cards of your Library and put them in the Waiting Room. For each Climax card revealed this way, choose up to 1 Cost 0 or lower Character in your Waiting Room, and put those Characters in separate Slots on the Stage. |
I know many people bash this card and consider it the weakest of the brainstorm trio that this set offers. I however feel that this card is actually quite strong. In combination with the level 1 Emilia combo, this card is part of a pretty nice mill/hand advantage engine. The Emilia combo is the best mid game combo in the set but the card is weak on defense. As such, it will be rare if the card survives your opponents turn. This card lets you spam the level 1 combo much more easily and in conjunction with that mill through your deck quickly if necessary. Yes the other brainstormers do this a well but this card has a few advantages to playing it. With this card it is possible to summon level 1 characters at level 0 and you can bypass the color requirement to do so. In addition, it can essentially buy you a turn where you don’t have to reveal the state of your hand to your opponent. Granted this card is certainly less relevant during the late game (playing at least 1 copy of a second brainstorm is recommended if that is a concern) and can have zero targets to pull from in some cases. However, this card should not be immediately dismissed as it is a nice option.

Trait 1: 魔法 (Magic) Trait 2: 精霊 (Elemental) |
[C] ASSIST All your Level 3 and higher Characters in front of this gain +2000 Power. [A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, draw a card, and discard a card from your hand to the Waiting Room. [S] BRAINSTORM [(1) Rest this] Flip over the top 4 cards of your Library and put them in the Waiting Room. For each Climax card revealed this way, choose 1 of your Opponent’s Characters. Those Characters do not Stand during your Opponent’s next Stand Phase. |
Next up we have a very interesting card. The 2k assist to level 3s have become a standard lvl 2 assist in recent sets and the profile has proven to be quite good especially in sets that have advance summon level 3s like this one. That alone means this card warrants consideration. However, this card has 2 additional effects worth discussing. The 1st is an on play draw one ditch 1 effect. Discard outlets like this one are always welcome in a deck. This can get you something you need and discard excess climaxes from your hand or get the level 1 puck into the waiting room. Finally we have a brainstorm effect which while it it is not unique is a solid effect. It lets you disable a card which you can’t beat in battle and forces your opponent to change their strategy and likely have to play more cards the next turn. This card certainly fits the definition of roleplayer.

[A] [(1) Discard a Character card with either ::Magic:: or ::Weapon:: from hand to the Waiting Room, put a Character from your Stage in the Waiting Room] When you use the BACKUP of this, you may pay cost. If so, choose 1 of your Opponent’s Characters whose Level is higher than the Level of your Opponent and put it on the bottom of the Library. [S] [Counter] BACKUP 2500, Level 2 [(1) Discard this card from your hand to the Waiting Room] |
The anti change counter for the set and one of two anti change options in this set. Anti change backups can be good if the cost isn’t too great and the cost for this effect here is actually quite reasonable. The additional stock is nothing in a set which has many good free effects. The trait restriction is basically a non factor. And Finally sending a character from stage to waiting room is no huge cost either as you can pick an already reversed character or one which will be reversed anyway. A good anti change option.

[C] BODYGUARD [A] RECOLLECTION At the start of your Climax Phase, if “Natsuki Subaru” is in your Memory, choose 1 of your Characters with either ::Magic:: or ::Weapon::, and that Character gains the following ability for the turn. “[A] When this attacks, you may deal 1 Damage to your Opponent.” (Damage Cancel can occur) [A] RECOLLECTION [(7) Discard an “Oni-Like Fanatical Methods” and 4 other cards from your hand to the Waiting Room, Send this to Memory] At the start of Encore Step, if “Returns by Death” is in your Memory and this is Reversed, you may pay cost. If so, put all cards from your Clock in the Waiting Room, all players return all Characters to their hands and return all cards in their Waiting Rooms to their respective Libraries. Afterwards, search your Library for up to 1 “Natsuki Subaru” and put it in the Slot this was in, and shuffle your Library. |

BRAINSTORM Flip over the top 3 cards of your Library and put them in the Waiting Room. Choose a Level X or lower Character with either ::Magic:: or ::Weapon:: in your Waiting Room and return it to your hand. X = # of Characters with either ::Magic:: or ::Weapon:: revealed this way. Choose 1 of your Characters, and that Character gains +2000 Power for the turn. Send this to Memory. |
This card combo was certainly hyped up when it was leaked and people having trying to build a deck around this. The problem is simply that this card combo is not good at all. The event is a nice stand alone card. For 1 stock power pump something by 2K, salvage a character and memory compress. Playing the event on it’s pwn is not a bad play. The level 3 Subaru is just not a good card at all. Yes you can heal 6 but you need 7 stock at the end of your opponents turn which can be tough some games. Plus you then reshuffle your deck and decompress like crazy with this card. Yes the payoff is that you get on attack burn but that is at the cost of decompressing like crazy. One extra damage might be enough but consudering that you likely will be short on stock to play other level 3s, the change of you pushing enough damage that turn is slim. After that because you have a fresh deck you will likely not survive the following attack. The level 3 is just not worth the cost. The event is good however.

Trait 1: 魔法 (Magic) Trait 2: メイド (Maid) |
[C] ASSIST All your Characters with either “Ram”, “Rem”, or “Subaru” in name in front of this gain +2000 Power and the following ability. “[C] This cannot be chosen as the target of Opponent’s effects.” [A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage or via effect of [A] ability of “Rem, Oni Form” to the Stage, draw up to 2 cards, discard 2 cards from your hand to the Waiting Room, and put up to 1 card from top of your Library in your Stock. [A] [Discard a Character card from your hand to the Waiting Room, put a “Smile of an Oni” from your Climax Zone in the Waiting Room] At the end of your turn, you may pay cost. If so, return the top card of your Clock to your hand. |
This card is one of the main reasons to play the Rem & Ram Deck Type. A 2k power boost to any of these characters despite the level is significant especially in the late game. This also is a great way to hand fix with it’s second effect which also effectively means that this is 1 3/1 character. The third effect gets around anti heal which is a nice option. The effect does require that you take up a climax slot which could be limited in some versions of the twins build but even if you don’t use the third effect, the other abilities are strong enough for inclusion in a maids deck.

[C] All your other Characters with either ::Magic:: or ::Weapon:: gain +500 Power. [A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, put the top 2 cards of your Library in the Waiting Room. If there were at least 1 Climax card among them, Rest this. [A] When your Climax card is placed in the Climax Zone, choose 1 of your Characters, and that Character gains +500 Power until the next end of your Opponent’s turn. |
We finish our discussion with a pretty simple card but one that can be easily included in most decks. You have a combination of three solid effects when put together adds to a nice utility card. Each effect is not broken but together they can put in some work for you. Extra power when playing a climax, and a free mill can both make a difference in a game. In addition you can add in a global power boost which is always wanted in a deck. Certainly a good utility option.
