Weiss Schwarz Set Overview: Re Zero Part 2 -Red

Greetings! Railgunfan75 here. This time I have part 2 of my Weiss Schwarz Overview for Re:Zero. If you are interested in part 1 click here (Weiss Schwarz Set Overview – Re:Zero Part 1: Blue). For part 2, I will be discussing the red cards from the set. As usual, all images and translations are from heartofthecards.com. So without any further delay, let’s get started!

RZ/S46-030   桃色髪のメイド ラム
Ram, Pink-Haired Maid
Trait 1: 魔法 (Magic)   Trait 2: メイド (Maid)
[A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, look at up to 3 cards from top of your Library, choose up to 1 of them and put it in your hand, and put the rest in the Waiting Room.
[A] When “Natsuki Subaru Decoy Operation” is placed in your Climax Zone, if this is in your Front Row, choose up to 2 cards in your Opponent’s Waiting Room and return them to the Library, your Opponent shuffles that Library, and this gains +3000 Power for the turn.
[A] [(2) Discard a card from your hand to the Waiting room] When this attacks, you may pay cost. If so, deal 1 Damage to your Opponent. (Damage Cancel can occur)
RZ/S46-054   ナツキ・スバル囮大作戦
Natsuki Subaru Decoy Operation
Trait 1: None   Trait 2: None
[C] All your Characters gain +1000 Power and +1 Soul.

This level 3 has 2 effects which make this card worth running. The first effect lets you cycle through your deck a bit faster and replaces itself with another card. Maintaining your hand at level 3 is especially useful since it lets you keep your attacking going and keeps cards out of your deck. The burn effect while pricey can always be used to push for that final damage in any game.  This combo is a bit undervalued in my opinion. Many people play the level 3 and not the climax or combo. Yes you can make arguments to run other climaxes but the combo really helps to make this card more consistent.

RZ/S46-032   ロズワール邸のメイド ラム
Ram, Maid of Roswaal’s Mansion
Trait 1: 魔法 (Magic)   Trait 2: メイド (Maid)
[C] If all your Characters have either “Roswaal”, “Ram”, or “Rem” in name, this gains +1000 Power.
[A] [(1)] When the Battle Opponent of this becomes Reversed, if “As a Big Sister” is in your Climax Zone and all your Characters have either “Roswaal”, “Ram”, or “Rem” in name, you may pay cost. If so, choose up to 2 Characters in your Waiting Room with either “Roswaal”, “Ram”, or “Rem” in name and return them to your hand.
RZ/S46-055   姉として
As a Big Sister
Trait 1: None   Trait 2: None
[A] When this is placed from hand to the Climax Zone, draw a card, choose 1 of your Characters, and that Character gains +2000 Power and +1 Soul for the turn.

The level 1 combo for the Rem/Ram deck type, this combo while decent is not as strong as it could be. The first major issue is that the climax only lets you power buff one character. This means simply that pulling this combo off multiple times in a turn is going to be difficult. This type of combo really encourages you to get to level 1 first to be the most effective. This card will get to 8000 power on average which can be countered over with relative ease. If your opponent has a level 1 wall in place by the time you can pull off this combo, then you will be out of luck. On the positive side, the combo does allow you to salvage 2 characters to make the single execution more worth the effort. Also the climax does replace itself when played, so the combo is a plus 2 when successful. This combo also gives you the freedom to choose cards to add from a larger pool than other combos. Because of the specific abilities of key cards in the Rem/Ram decks and the fact that it grabs only those characters this combo is the choice for those builds- it is just not as strong as other combos out there.

RZ/S46-033   千里眼の力 ラム
Ram, Power of Clairvoyance
Trait 1: 魔法 (Magic)   Trait 2: メイド (Maid)
[C] All your other Characters with either “Roswaal”, “Ram”, or “Rem” in name gain +500 Power.
[A] When this or your other Character with either “Roswaal”, “Ram”, or “Rem” in name is placed from hand to the Stage, you may look at the top card of your Library. (Put it back where it was)
[S] [(1) Discard a Climax card from your hand to the Waiting Room] Choose a Character in your Waiting Room with either “Roswaal”, “Ram”, or “Rem” in name and return them to your hand.

Next up we have another utility piece for the Rem/Ram deck and it is a solid addition to the deck. First we have a global assist for Rem, Ram, and Roswall characters which is always nice to have. The card also gives you a top check option which synergies with other cards in the deck and provides a very nice discard outlet for excessive climaxes in hand. It is a shame that this card only fits into one deck type as this combination of effects is a good combination.

RZ/S46-034   メイドは見た! ラム
Ram, the Maid Saw It!
Trait 1: 魔法 (Magic)   Trait 2: メイド (Maid)
[C] All your other Characters with “Subaru” in name are considered to have “Barusu” as the name.
[A] BOND/”Rem, Faint Light Seen By Those Eyes” [Discard a card from your hand to the Waiting Room]
[S] BRAINSTORM [(1) Rest this] Flip over the top 4 cards of your Library and put them in the Waiting Room. For each Climax card revealed this way, choose up to 1 Character in your Waiting Room and return it to your hand.

This card is most useful for it’s  brainstorm effect. The “Barusu” effect is simply flavor. The bond effect is decent with a solid target in a 2/1 anti change card but the cost is not the best and the card is a 1 or 2 of at most and could very likely not be in your waiting room when it is played. The main effect on this card, the brainstorm is the reason to play this card. It is the only brainstorm in the set which plusses to hand and is the relevant traits. For those reasons alone, this card is a must play.

RZ/S46-035   木漏れ日の下で レム&ラム
Rem & Ram Under the Sunlight Through the Leaves
Trait 1: 魔法 (Magic)   Trait 2: メイド (Maid)
[A] When this becomes Reversed, if the Level of the Battle Opponent of this is 0 or lower, you may Reverse that Character.
[S] [Discard a card from your hand to the Waiting Room, put this in the Waiting Room] Choose a Character with either ::Magic:: or ::Weapon:: in your Waiting Room and return it to your hand.

I’m not really sold on the second effect of this card. The cost of removing a character from field and discarding a card is a bit expensive for this type of effect. You are effectively discarding 2 cards from hand (1 when when you play it, 1 for effect) to retrieve another character. While you can get something stronger to play with this, losing 2 cards is too expensive. The strength of this card is with the reverser effect but this set can get by with out it. If you are looking for a level 0 bomb, then this card is worth considering.

RZ/S46-038   バスタイム! レム&ラム
Rem & Ram, Bath Time!
Trait 1: 魔法 (Magic)   Trait 2: メイド (Maid)
[C] If all your Characters have either “Roswaal”, “Ram”, or “Rem” in name, this gains +1000 Power.
[A] When this attacks, reveal the top card of your Library. If it’s a Character with either “Roswaal”, “Ram”, or “Rem” in name, deal X damage to your Opponent. X = the Level of that Character. (Damage Cancel can occur. Put the revealed card back where it was)
[A] [(1)] When the Battle Opponent of this becomes Reversed, you may pay cost. If so, choose a card in your Opponent’s Waiting Room and put it on top of the Library.

This card is a bit undervalued in my opinion. Yes it does have the restriction of being playable in only the Rem/Ram deck but this card gives the deck some good endgame fire power. This card is very resource efficient. It’s on attack effect is free and it’s on reverse effect only costs 1 additional stock. For this you can potentially get 1 additional attack and can get 1 damage put on the top of the deck. This card does a couple of issues- if you reveal a climax, event or level 0 you burn nothing and you can only top deck on reverse. But you do have ways to work around this in the set. You have the top checking assist I discussed earlier and you can get this card to decent power levels with assists and other effects. This card type can be a gamble but I have had success with this and the Archer from Fate UBW. Give this card a shot if you are playing a Rem/Ram deck.

RZ/S46-039   パックと一緒 スバル
Subaru with Puck
Trait 1: 死 (Death)   Trait 2: 魔法 (Magic)
[A] [Discard a card from your hand to the Waiting Room] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, you may pay cost. If so, choose a “Forbidden Library” in your Waiting Room and return it to your hand.
[A] [(1) Discard a card from your hand to the Waiting Room, Send this to Memory] When this becomes Reversed in battle, you may pay cost. If so, choose a Character with either ::Magic:: or ::Weapon:: in your Waiting Room and return it to your hand.

I am discussing this card because this card could have a role to play in a competitive deck especially if you can’t afford or can’t find the Rem RR Riki clone (that card is really expensive). This card can serve the role of setting up your mid/late game. This card has certain advantages and disadvantages compared to the Rem. On the positive side, you can grab any level character, you can use this later in the game, and it gives you slight compression. The disadvantages are that you get a delayed benefit from this card, you may have a smaller card selection in the waiting room vs the deck, and it can be affected by anti-salvage. The second effect bonds to an event which brings out a lvl 3 Beatrice a level early . If you are running the combo then this effect if not then this effect doesn’t do anything. This card while not a 1/1 replacement for the Rem is a solid backup one if you so choose.

RZ/S46-040   宮廷魔導士 ロズワール
Roswaal, Imperial Wizard
Trait 1: 魔法 (Magic)   Trait 2: オッドアイ (Odd-Eye)
[C] This cannot be chosen as the target of Opponent’s effects.
[C] ASSIST All your Characters with either ::Magic:: or ::Weapon:: in front of this gain +X Power. X = 500 times Level of that Character.
[A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, you may put the top 3 cards of your Library in the Waiting Room.
[A] This ability activates up to once per turn. When you use an [S] ability, choose 1 of your Characters, and that Character gains +500 Power for the turn.
[S] [(2) Rest this] Draw a card.
[S] [(1)] Choose a Level 0 or lower Character in your Opponent’s Front Row and put it in the Waiting Room.

This card is a great toolbox card and an instant 4 of inclusion right? Well not quite. This card has a lot of solid effects in the right situations but I have found that for the most part you never need to play this card. None of the effects  are really that strong or really do much for you especially for the 1 stock to play this card. Probably the best effect of this card is the mill 3 effect and that is not worth playing the 1 stock for. I would recommend pass on playing this card.

RZ/S46-047   扉渡り ベアトリス
Beatrice, Crossing Over
Trait 1: 魔法 (Magic)   Trait 2: 本 (Book)
[A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, put the top 2 cards of your Library in the Waiting Room. If there were at least 1 Climax card among them, you may choose a Character with either ::Magic:: or ::Weapon:: in your Waiting Room and return it to your hand.

Next up we have a nice free card and free effect. Beatrice gives you a free mill 2 and a possible free plus. This card is useful at all stages of the game and with multiple scenarios. If you are out of climaxes and need to mill through your deck faster this card can help with that for free. If you know that you have a climax you want to mill from the top of the deck, you can do that and get a character from the waiting room. There will be times when this card might be a dead card in your hand but those situations are outweighed by the benefits. Toss a couple of copies into your deck- it can do some work for you.

RZ/S46-049   両手に花 ラム
Ram, Flanked by Pretty Women
Trait 1: 魔法 (Magic)   Trait 2: メイド (Maid)
[C] All your other “Rem, Flanked by Pretty Women” gain +1000 Power.
[A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, look at up to 2 cards from top of your Library, choose up to 1 “Rem, Flanked by Pretty Women” and put it in any Slot on the Stage, and put the rest in the Waiting Room.
[A] When this attacks, if you have another “Rem, Flanked by Pretty Women”, this gains +2000 Power for the turn.
RZ/S46-088   両手に花 レム
Rem, Flanked by Pretty Women
Trait 1: 魔法 (Magic)   Trait 2: メイド (Maid)
[C] During your Opponent’s turn, if you have another “Ram, Flanked by Pretty Women”, this gains +2000 Power.
[C] All your other “Ram, Flanked by Pretty Women” gain +1000 Power.
[A] At the start of your Opponent’s Attack Phase, you may choose a “Ram, Flanked by Pretty Women” and this, then Stand and Swap them.

Yes there is a blue card listed here but it made more sense to talk about in conjunction with it’s partner. This card combo is better than it seems. The Ram can help you get the Rem on board and if the Rem is not in the top 2, then you just got a free mill out of it. Not too bad. You have the Ram which gets to over 7k on offense and the Rem is at least 7K on defense. This combo takes a bit of planning on both players sides. The player playing this does need to plan their board and attacks fairly carefully and the defending player needs to play around the defensive capabilities of the combo especially the swap effect. When this works, this combo can work nicely. Just keep in mind that a minimum of 3 copies of each are needed to make this the most effective.

RZ/S46-P02   ロズっち書庫の司書 ベアトリス
Beatrice, Librarian of Ros-chi’s Library
Trait 1: 魔法 (Magic)   Trait 2: 本 (Book)
[A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, reveal the top card of your Library. If it’s a Character with either ::Magic:: or ::Weapon::, you may deal 1 Damage to your Opponent. (Damage Cancel can occur. Put the revealed card back where it was)
[A] When this is placed form hand to the Stage, choose 1 of your Characters with either ::Magic:: or ::Weapon::, and that Character gains +1500 Power for the turn.

Finally we have a promo card which is certainly worth considering. This card can be a nice endgame roleplayer especially in conjunction with the Emilia level 3. It can provide an extra finisher in the deck and can give the Emilia an extra 1500 power to pull off her combo which is nothing to sneeze at. The power buff can make the difference between the extra attack or not and 1 extra damage can be a difference maker. It’s not strong enough to build a deck around as there are scenarios where it can do nothing for you but as a support piece say 1 or 2 copies, it can help you win games more consistently.

That concludes Part 2 of the set Overview for Re:Zero. What do you think of the cards I have discussed? Please comment below.  Next up will be the third and final part where I will discuss the Yellow cards. Stay tuned for that!
