Highlights
Full Metal Panic Invisible Victory wasted to no time getting into the action in Episode 1 and Episode 2 continues the excitement. The chase scene was incredibly well done. It was nice to see Sousuke being a bad ass once again- the guy does have some skills, that’s for sure. I also enjoyed the scene with Tessa showing a side to her that we have really only gotten glimpses of up to this point. What a great episode!
Steins; Gate 0 presented us with another fascinating episode. I am enjoying how the pacing for this series has gone. It may not be a breakneck pace but each episode has made significant contributions to the overall plot so far. And while this episode provided us with yet more questions than answers- those questions are certainly interesting to explore. Which side is Moeka on? Who was the mystery stalker following Maho? Was there even a stalker? Why is Kagari suffering from amnesia? The series as always keeps us guessing and I can’t wait until next week.
The dub for Steins; Gate 0 was another in a long line of gems for the series. And yes, I have started a re-watch of the original Steins;Gate- doing because I thought a re-watch would be fun to do at this point.
Darling in the Franxx put in another strong showing this week. While the series has certainly been a bit inconsistent with it’s episode quality- when it hits it’s high points however, the series is amazing and this week was another high point. It is clear that the series is building up to it’s grand finale- with quite a few nuggets dropped for us in this episode.
My Hero Academia delivered another in a series of solid episodes to start the season. Though I finally feel like the series is starting to wramp it up again. The episode a few weeks ago with Deku’s battle was quite good but overall the series has lacked the same impact that season 2 had. That is starting to change this week with some real stakes at place once again. This episode was quite good and the finale sequence leading to the end credits really has me amped for next week’s episode.
Wotakoi gave us another insanely fun episode. The introduction of Hirotaka’s younger brother was really a lot of fun. We all have had that dreaded moment where we realize that someone is “not a geek”. The episode captured perfectly those moments when you are trying to include someone who is as familiar with something like gaming. It is clear that the writer of this series just understands what it’s like to be a geek, otaku, gamer, etc. After five episodes, it’s clear that this series for me is one of the best of the year.
Megalo Box also put in a really solid episode with the conclusion of the fight this week. Simply put, this show is cool to watch. Overall the story has been fun and engaging to watch. This awesome underdog story continues with an ending to the episode which was incredibly well done in my opinion.
Golden Kamuy continues to be a very interesting series. Still love the character interactions and the historical setting is used really well in my opinion. The episode had a few nice twists and turns. While not entirely surprising, the events of the episode were certainly entertaining to watch. Can’t wait to see how the fight plays out next week.
Disappointments
I am a bit disappointed that this week’s episode of SAO Alternative was a recap episode. I don’t usually have an issue with recap episodes but it is a bit much after only 4 weeks. I ended up skipping the episode (mostly due to time) but will pick it up next week.
Other thoughts..
With the new series, I am getting my first introduction to The Legend of the Galactic Heroes franchise. I must say the characters and the premise introduced in the first few episodes are certainly interesting. Looking forward to seeing where the show goes.
Comic Girls has been a fun “cute girls doing cute things” series. Probably not the most memorable one that I’ve seen but still fun. I will certainly keep watching.
Space Battle Tiramasu simply had me going..wtf. I’ll keep watching it though.
