Highlights
Steins; Gate- why do you do this to us? It seems we have reached the point where the torture kicks into high gear for Okabe. And while we knew it was coming, it doesn’t lessen the impact of what happened. It was brilliant to have the episode primarily be in a positive direction and then end on that note. It really hammered home how fleeting such things truly are. Steins; gate has always done an excellent job with it’s cliffhanger endings and this week was no exception.
On a similar note, this weeks episode of Darling in the Franxx really laid down the hammer. It was only a matter of time before the bubble was burst and that was this week. Wow, what a game changer. We are now down the home stretch and are setting up for a very interesting conflict. With 6 episodes to go, the series climax is upon and boy is it going to be good. I know many people hate on this series but I will stand by guns and say that especially in recent weeks the series has only gotten better. Can’t wait to see what happens next week.
Of course the new episode of Full Metal Panic was excellent as always. I have always enjoyed how grounded the series really is. While the action sequences are great, the best parts of the show are those moments where the characters shine. There were plenty of those moments in the episode. Kurz was always an awesome character but his complexity really shone through in this episode. Also, the scene between Sousuke and Kaname at the end of the episode was a real gem as they really open up about how they feel about each other. Many series dodge such moments and I am glad that FMP didn’t do that.
SAO GGO (As I’ll abbreviate it from now on) had a good episode with some nice set up for the second half of the series. I will agree the whole “stop the death game” thing is a bit disappointing as we have seen it before. However, I have hope that with the setup that we seen that the story will be entertaining to watch especially with the series’ awesome MC. The second half of the series should be good.
Megalo Box had another cool episode this week. The ending was incredible unexpected. I am really curious as to where they will go with the story next. The story is not following a typical path for a sports series and I think that it is one of it’s strengths. Overall it was a good episode this week.
Disappointments
There were no disappointments this week. Yay!
Other Thoughts
Golden Kamuy had another good episode this week. I am wondering how they will conclude the story with so much still in play and only 5 episodes to go. It is certainly possible that we won’t get a conclusive ending to the series. Even if that is the case, the series has been a treat to watch.
Was I the only who felt like this weeks My Hero Academia seemed like two episodes? It wasn’t terrible but it felt like the villains leaving is the perfect end to one episode with the aftermath being another. Still enjoyed the episode however.
That concludes this weeks installment of “What am I Watching?” What did you enjoy from last week? Any series recommendations?
