Greetings! Here we are- another week has passed. This week I got in some amazing anime viewing, though again I didn’t get to watch everything I wanted to. However, what I did get to watch was pretty awesome. I will admit that it has been fun writing these weekly posts- it gives me a chance to geek out over my favorite episodes. I appreciate the support that the readers have given me with this feature so far. So let’s not delay any further- and discuss this weeks episodes.

steins gate 0 ep. 8

Of course we start are discussion with the emotional train-wreck that was Steins Gate 0 last week. One of the things that makes the Steins; Gate franchise so appealing is that the characters and their emotions are incredibly authentic. This episode was insanely heartbreaking to watch especially the final few minutes of the episode. It was a nice testament to Okabe’s character that they showed us how Okabe would be if he gave up on saving Mayuri and how similar that would to be to the events of the series.  Also, this episode adds more evidence to the fact that Kurisu is easily one of the best anime characters of all time. She makes the difficult choice that Okabe couldn’t make regardless of how she felt. The series really has a tough act to follow after that episode.

Speaking of the feels train, Hinamatsuri really hit hard this week with a great episode. The series has been amazing from episode 1 and really hits a high mark with episode 6. In this episode we get a bittersweet continuation of Anzu’s story. She no longer has to scrounge to survive but in turn has to give up the family she came to know. And through it all, she is only thinking of what happens to them not her. In addition Hina gets to meet the Nitta family in a rather amusing series of events only to get welcomed herself. The reason I have enjoyed this series is that it contains an insane (and surprising) amount of heart to it along with a bunch of great humor. Another in a long list of amazing series this year so far.

flcl 2

FLCL had it’s triumphant return last week. The first episode of the new season was vintage FLCL. It certainly had echoes of the 1st episode of the original but yet felt new at the same time. It was great to hear The Pillows return with some new music and some of the great songs from the original. And of course the reveal at the end of the episode while surprising was still amazing. I of course am exciting for the upcoming episodes to come. And yes Haruka is as insane and awesome as ever.

comic girls 1

I am finally caught up on Comic Girls and that series just continues to be fun to watch. For a show like this work, it needs awesome characters and Comic Girls has that in spades. It is an especially fun touch to have the girls manga be in the genres that they are. It’s so much fun to see the quite Tsubasa get into her shonen characters of the level headed Ruki write erotic manga.  I will say that i really hope Kaos can get a manga published by the end of the series. How can you not root for her to succeed? She tries so ahrd.

On the pure comedy side of things- I have to say that I am still enjoying Full Metal Panic/ Fumouffu and Baka and Test. Loved the theme park in Episode 4 of Full Metal Panic especially- seeing a giant bear take down security guards is just priceless.  Both series continue to be insanely funny. Sometimes one just needs to sit back and go along for the ride. And both of these shows are one hell of a ride.

Seeing All for One for the first time was absolutely jaw dropping- damn the My Hero Academia cliffhanger.

Wotakoi continues to be one of the best shows of the season and the year.

There was no episode of Darling in the Franxx this week- really bummed out about that.

Full Metal Panic Invisible Victory was a re-cap episode. I’m not really sure why it was necessary after only 4 episodes.

Other Thoughts

I might just stick with the dub for Golden Kamuy- it is really well done and I am about 3 weeks behind on the sub anyway.
