Highlights

kyouma sg0

The mad scientist returns…Hououin Kyouma is finally back and what an entrance that was. I loved Maho’s reaction to the appearance of Kyouma especially when she she’s how excited Daru is for his return. To get to that point, Okabe had to go through a lot of stuff and I was quite impressed with how they managed to get him there, do it in under an episode and not really make it feel rushed at all. We have passed one major turning point for the series but still have a few major obstacles to overcome in the final few episodes. What a ride that episode was!

Chio’s School Road delivered another awesome episode this week. They continue to concoct insane scenarios for a group of characters to deal with. I will say the best bits are when Chio blurs the line between gaming and reality. The story where Chio decides to scale the alleyway was absolutely hilarious especially with Manana’s reaction to the whole thing. I love how again they were able to convince the people that get caught up in the hijinks that nothing out of the ordinary is happening. I can say with confidence that this is one of my favorite shows of the year.

boku-no-hero-academia-61-10

I will say that this week’s’ episode of My Hero Academia was one of the best episodes of the week. The episode was certainly not what I would have expected- the discussion between Deku and Bakugo was certainly worth the watch. It was great to see another side to Bakugo and it was also great to see the two characters hash out some of their differences and at least come to some understanding. Do the events greatly change Bakugo’s character like some have suggested? I would say he doesn’t change as much as people say but it does make him a more interesting character.

FLCL_Alternative

Finally, I want to highlight this week’s episode of FLCL Alternative. We were given another awesome episode.  I actually like how the new season has the FLCL feel but the pacing (at least so far) is different from what we have seen before. I can appreciate how the series is constantly evolving but yet staying the same. They can tell the intimate story like they did with this episode but mix it in with insanity that doesn’t feel out of place.

Disappointments

No disappointments this week again!

Other thoughts

dbz kai

I had started to watch Dragon Ball Z Kai last year and had gotten through approximately a season of the show. I started watching it after getting an invite to see the Resurrection movie when it aired in theaters last year. I wanted to have at least some understanding of the characters and what was happening. I certainly became a fan of the franchise at that point. However, I hadn’t had much spare viewing time until lately to keep going on the series.  With another movie from the franchise coming to theaters this past week, I made some time to at least make another run at the series. It has been an incredibly fun ride (and the movie was damn entertaining as well) and I have enjoyed my experiences with the franchise so far.

In the sports anime realm, I continue to be impressed by both Harukana Receive and Major 2nd. Both are fine examples of entertaining sports anime.

I will say what many people have said…Hanebado isn’t a terrible series, it just didn’t take advantage of the potential it had. There are great characters and the staff clearly cares about the project, it is just some of the writing choices hurt the series. If they had kept Nagisa as the central focus, the series would have gold- her character arc has been damn entertaining.

That concludes my thoughts for this week. What did you enjoy from the past week? Please comment below or let me know on Twitter (@Railgunfan75) or Facebook (Railgunfan75’s Geek Blog).
