My thoughts on all things geek…anime, comics, conventions, etc. Just remember stay geeky my friends!
Greetings! I am back with another weekly post. We have that time, one anime season ends and another begins. A lot of new series make the list this week as there were a ton of premiere episodes. Also we are down to only a few Summer season dubs left as the season comes to an end. Anyway, it is an exciting time for sure. So let’s not delay any further, here is the list!

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai Ep. 1
Major 2nd Ep. 18
Sword Art Online Alicization Ep. 1
Fairy Tail Ep. 278
RErideD Ep. 5
Goblin Slayer Ep. 1
Ulysses: Jeanne D’ Arc and the Alchemist Knight Ep. 1
Radiant Ep. 1
The Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime Ep. 2
Chio’s School Road Ep. 11
My Hero Academia Ep. 62
SSSS Gridman Ep. 1
FLCL Alternative Ep. 5
Hunter x Hunter Ep. 105-108
Double Decker Ep. 2
Steins;Gate 0 Ep. 22
Admittedly, it is a bit tougher to do a highlights portion since so many of the series are just starting and haven’t even really gotten their narratives going. So for this week, I guess I will start by briefly discuss what series got my attention.
Early on it appears that I will be sticking a fair amount of series as their first episodes made a good impression.
-Double Decker has been fun and wacky- just the type of humor that I have striving for lately. I am also a fan of Tiger & Bunny of which the series is a prequel of. I’m going to stick with this one.
-Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Senpai had a very interesting first episode. The humor was subtle but on point and I really liked the characters and dynamics introduced in the 1st episode. Also the supernatural element intrigues me.
– SSSS Gridman looks like it will another solid entry by Studio Trigger. The animation looked awesome and the episode certainly left curious as to what was going on. This will be on my weekly watch list.
I am also sold on The Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime. Episode 2 continued to be a fun little romp in a cool fantasy world. I liked how they are making the main character op but doing in a non annoying or insane way. Also the dragon was just hilarious. Hope to see more of him.
I am also glad to see one of my all time favorites- Fairy Tail- return for it’s final season. I know that I expect a mob coming after me for saying that i enjoy this series but I enjoy the series. Fairy Tail was never perfect, no series is. For me, Fairy Tail has always been a lot of fun. I actually really enjoy the characters and the series does a nice job with world building. It also was one of my first anime series. This weeks’ episode was certainly vintage Fairy Tail and I am glad they didn’t miss a step. Natsu, Hapy and Lucy traveling together was very nostalgic to me and I’m glad that three of them get some time to do again.
I was also excited to see the return of SAO this last week as well. I will admit the first episode of the new season was actually quite interesting and entertaining. I think the concepts and ideas that have been introduced could lead itself to a great narrative. The brief Gun Gale Battle scene as awesome and I quite enjoyed the narrative in the first half of the episode. Also I have heard good things about the story arc from novel readers (I’m not that far yet in reading the series), so I am optimistic that the good things that episode 1 did will continue in the future.
I am saddened by the fact that I cannot watch A Certain Magical Index as of the time of this post. I am with many other fans, the situation is frustrating. I don’t mind that we might have to wait to watch the series in the U.S. but something saying why would be really nice. Guess I will just have to keep waiting.
Also I was let down by Ulysses: Jeanne D’ Arc and the Alchemist Knight. The premise itself seemed really intriguing. However, the 1st episode was really a hot mess. They rush the character introductions, have plot points that only really serve to introduce the characters and are soon brushed aside, and then ends the episode in an awkward way.
Of course, I will take some time and talk about the first episode of Goblin Slayer. First off, I can understand where some people would get upset with the events that transpired in the episode. They were gruesome events to be sure. I also never condone such actions and always feel uncomfortable whenever I see those scenes portrayed on television. I don’t think that treating women in that way is right at all. However, I thought that the episode handled the subject matter in the best way that they could. It did serve a narrative purpose and added a sense of dark realism to the world. The events pounded the point home that this was not a happy world to live in- it is a dangerous one. I will continue to watch the series.
I will continue to say this until the end of the time, the Steins;Gate and My Hero Academia dubs are among the best dubs out there and the best way to watch both series.
So that concludes my thoughts for this week. What did you enjoy from last week? What series are you picking up from the new season? Please comment below of message me on Twitter (@Railgunfan75).
