Greetings! Railgunfan75 here with another installment of my 2019 Fate Franchise Celebration. The main line Fate series is easily one of the most dark and intense franchises out there. Let’s face it, a lot of shit happens to all of the series characters. But did you know that there are series in the franchise that are not so dark and heavy to watch? You heard me correctly, there are series inspired by the Fate universe that would tickle your fancy if you are looking for a good slice of life, comedy, or just something different. Today, I will be discussing those odd ball series with the Fate moniker and why you should watch them.

Carnival Phantasm

Just an adorable moment!

I stumbled upon this series after seeing a series of memes on Twitter and wow was this a lot of fun to watch. For those not in the know, Carnival Phantasm is a series which takes the characters of Fate/Stay Night and Tsukihime and places them in absurd comedy situations. Of course I checked this out for the Fate situations and these were certainly a highlight for me. What if the Holy Grail War were settled with a series of games from a game show or a race? What happens when Rin is tasked with recording a tv show for Shirou? These are just some of the scenarios that viewers are treated to. And these scenarios are absolutely hilarious. Sadly, this series is not officially licensed (I watched this on YouTube) but if you can find it, I would certainly say check it out.

Today’s Menu for the Emiya Family

Who would have thought that the combination of cooking and the characters from Fate/Stay Night would work so well. While purists might say – “oh but where’s the action, that’s not Fate”, I would argue that this series is a nice addition to the franchise. It is cool to see these characters in a more relaxed type element and in a fun “what if” type scenario. The change may seem surprising at first but you still have the same great characters and interactions between them. They are just in a more grounded situation. The series highlights a simple truth- food brings us together and does so in a way that is fun and charming. If you are looking for a Fate fix but are in the mood for something light and fun, I would certainly recommend checking this series out. It also helps that the food looks damn good in those episodes.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya

This is yet another case of an interesting and unexpected genre crossover. Fate meets the Magical Girl Genre- it is certainly a combination that I would not have thought would be possible. Starring Illya, the series takes the concepts of Fate and changes them up. Other fan favorite characters such as Rin also play a part in the series. And while there is plenty of drama to be had, the series definitely falls on the lighter side of things. The series is a good magical girl story and the Fate elements add another layer to it. The series is a great balance of fluffy slice of life moments and drama featuring a character which deserved to have more screen time. Illya is a character which I always thought was a bit under utilized and while this is an alternate world story, it is great to see her take center stage. I honestly recommend giving this series a shot if you are fan

The Fate franchise has given us many great installments in the main story line but the series is also special because of it’s insane amount of adaptability and ability to cross genres. Hopefully with this post I have encouraged you to check out these series if you haven’t done so already. If you have seen these series, then I hope that this has reminded you of the good times that you had watching it. I still have more to come during this Fate Celebration so stay tuned! So until next time, this is Railgunfan75 signing off! Remember to show consideration and respect to others around you no matter what your differences are. It goes a long way. And remember to stay geeky my friends!
