Greetings! Railgunfan75 here with some more Weiss content for the first time in a long time. Don’t worry I didn’t forget about Fate (which was my last set discussed on here), I will get back to that set at a later point. There is a new format I am trying in regards to these posts. This new format will be simply a overview with 10-12 cards/combos that I find interesting and worth discussing. And there will be deck profiles as well.

One of the more popular sets of recent years was Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. Recently, the series received a second set based off of the Dreaming Girl Movie plus an English release a few months back of set 1 and interest has been renewed. I thought it would be cool to discuss the Bunny Girl Senpai set as it contains some cool and interesting tech and the there are a bunch of interesting deck building options. Don’t worry the new Dreaming Girl set will be discussed in a separate post. Now that all of that is out of the way, let’s get started.

SBY/W64-006   黄昏の夕空 桜島 麻衣
Mai Sakurajima, Twilight Sky

Traits: 思春期 (Adolescence), 料理 (Cuisine)

[A] When this attacks, if you have 4 or more other ::Adolescence:: Characters, choose 1 of your Characters, and that Character gains +1000 Power and +1 Soul for the turn.
[A] This ability activates up to once per turn. During the turn this is placed from hand to the Stage, when the Damage dealt by this is Cancelled, you may deal 1 Damage to your Opponent. (Damage Cancel can occur)

First up we have a card which I have not seen in a ton of deck lists but is a nice complimentary finisher. This card has 2 useful effects for dealing extra damage. The first effect can be useful in managing damage- either from setting up a side attack for precise damage or turning a character into a 2 soul character. Also, the 1000 power is not insignificant for on reverse effects or to simply help clear an opponents field. The requirement to activate the effect is basically meaningless as the Adolescence trait is ubiquitous throughout the set and getting a full field is usually easy. The second ability is an effective way to either deal 1 damage on a cancel for to flush out an additional climax for a future attack. Neither of these effects has an additional cost which is another bonus as the only cost is the cost to play the character. Overall, a nice level 3 utility card.

Traits: 思春期 (Adolescence), 料理 (Cuisine)

[A] When this card is placed from hand to the Stage, reveal 1 card from top of your Library. If that card’s Level is 0 or lower, this card gains +3000 Power for the turn. If it’s not, draw up to 1 card, discard 1 card from your hand to the Waiting Room, and this card gains +1000 Power for the turn. (Climax cards are considered Level 0 for this effect. Put the revealed card back where it was)

Next up is an interesting card. This is certainly the definition of a “coin flip” card but it one with two positive outcomes. You can either have this card become a one turn assassin at 7500 + power or you can be at a decent power level but get a hand fix instead. Both are useful options in certain situations. Sure, this card would be better if you could control what effect you get and be guaranteed to get the result you want but I’ve found that as a start of turn play it works rather well. Either way you get a top check out of it which can always be useful. You either know your first trigger if you don’t draw it or if it is climax you have a guarantee that a brainstorm will hit. As a mid game play, it can certainly be useful.

Shoko Makinohara, Phantom Sister

Traits: 思春期 (Adolescence), 謎 (Mystery)

[A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, put the top 2 cards of your Library in the Waiting Room. If there is at least 1 Climax card among them, choose 1 of your Characters, and that Character gains +1500 Power for the turn.
[A] [(1) Discard a card from your hand to the Waiting Room] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, you may pay cost. If so, search your Library for up to 1 ::Adolescence:: Character, reveal it, put it in your hand, and shuffle your Library.

This card is pretty much an automatic inclusion in any Bunny Girl deck. Good color fixing for Green which is one of the better colors the set has to offer. It also serves a nice role as a means of deck milling with a possible power pump and hand fixing. The potential power pump of 1500 is enough to swing a lot of battles. The set also has viable options using the standby mechanic and getting cards in the waiting room is key for this mechanic to work. In other decks, it is a great way to hand tailor to set up your game plan. The two effects on their own are nice but in the context of the set, it works pretty well.

Traits: 思春期 (Adolescence), 科学 (Science)

[C] If this is in the Front Row Center Slot, this gains +4000 Power.
[C] If your Level is 3 or higher, this gains “[C] BODYGUARD
[A] [(1) Discard a card from your hand to the Waiting Room] When the Battle Opponent of this becomes Reversed, you may pay cost. If so, deal 1 Damage to your Opponent. (Damage Cancel can occur)

Traits: 思春期 (Adolescence), 科学 (Science)

[C] If your Level is 2 or higher, this card gains the following ability. “[A] [(1) Put 1 “Rio Futaba, Lovesick” on your Stage under this card faceup as marker] choose up to 1 “Rio Futaba, Calm Deposition” from your Waiting Room, put it in the Slot this is in, put all Markers from under this as well as this card face-up under that “Rio Futaba, Calm Deposition” as Markers in any order, then choose up to 1 ::Adolescence:: Character from Waiting Room and return it to your hand.”
SBY/W64-081   恋煩い 双葉 理央
Rio Futaba, Lovesick

Traits: 思春期 (Adolescence), 科学 (Science)

[C] All your other ::Adolescence:: Characters gain +500 Power.
[S] [(1)] Choose a Level 0 or lower Character in your Opponent’s Front Row and put it in the Waiting Room.

These three cards setup one of the strongest and most efficient endgame options that the set has to offer. The level 3 is a surprise standout with the Bodyguard (Great Performance in English) ability. For those not in the know, the effect forces all opposing attacks to become front attacks to the character unless the bodyguard character is reversed. This one is nice because it is naturally big at 12500 when in the front center slot and can ping for extra damage when it defeats an opposing character on either turn without needing a climax. This means it can slot in with virtually any other combo that you want to run. The other two cards are a means of bring it out at level 2 where you can still get the on reverse effect just without the bodyguard effect. This is a nice way to summon the card as well because it costs the same amount of stock to summon it early as at level 3 and you get a card back from the waiting room when you do it. Sure you lose one character on board but the trade off is that use compress your deck by having 3 cards in one slot. This is a really cool combo if you have the deck space and if you don’t you can just run the level 3 as a finishing option.

Traits: 思春期 (Adolescence), スマホ (Smartphone)

[A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, look at up to 3 cards from top of your Library, put them on top of your Library in any order, and choose up to 1 of your Opponent’s Characters and return that Character to their hand.
[A] CX COMBO [Discard 2 cards from your hand to Waiting Room] When this card’s Battle Opponent is Reversed, if “All the Lies I Have For You” is in your Climax Zone, you may pay the cost. If so, put that Character in Clock, and deal 1 damage to your Opponent. (Damage Cancel can occur)
SBY/W64-048   ありったけの嘘を君に
All the Lies I Have For You
[C] All your Characters gain +1000 Power and +1 Soul.

This is one of the level 3 combos that the set has to offer and it is a combo which could be potent. The level 3 gives you an option for digging for the climax to execute the combo and the digging effect essentially replaces the card once you play it. Since the cost to execute the combo is 2 cards from hand this is certainly useful in scenarios where you don’t have a lot of excessive stock. The combo effect could be quite potent if you have the hand size to use it as on reverse you get a guaranteed damage hit with the clock kick and a potential second one with the burn. If you can execute this three times in a turn that could be devastating and likely win you the game as either the damage from the burn sticks or it cancels opening the door for the next attack to hit. Of course this relies on two things, the first is having the hand to do this multiple times which can be difficult in some games plus getting the reverses to trigger the effect. At 11000 power with the climax, this card in many cases will need some support so having a strong field with assists will help here. This is a high risk play to use this combo but in the right circumstances it can work nicely.

[A] When this is placed from hand to the Climax Zone, choose up to 2 of your GREEN Characters, and they gain +3000 Power and +1 Soul for the turn.

This is our 1st look at a level 1 combo from the set. The one of choice for many players is the standby combo which I will discuss later in this post but this is a viable second option in the right deck build. This is an on reverse search combo with an interesting caveat, it combos with a climax that boosts green characters by 3000 power and a soul for the turn. So you could have 2 of the Futabas be 8500 + power on that turn. Sure you can’t have 3 big that big but the chances of needing 3 to be that big to get a reverse is slim anyway. of course the climaxes only buffs green characters so it has to be included in a deck where green is a prominent color but you have other reasons to run green anyway so this is not a huge issue. And of course a search combo is always a nice asset to have. A solid option for Futaba decks or any deck that runs Green cards.

Choose 1 of your “Mai Sakurajima, Irreplaceable Existence” in Memory, place it to any Slot on the Stage, and that card gains +5000 Power for the turn.

These 6 cards form one of the centerpiece combos to the set and the one of the most flavorful combos that I have seen in a while. To sum up, the level 3 Mai can be played from hand or memory to stage. To get it to memory, you can either use the level 0 Mai or the level 1 Mai counter to send it to memory (the level 0 being the better choice as it is no cost to do so). The Mai level 3 also sends herself to memory when front attacked. To get Mai from Memory to Stage you can either use the 3/1 event or the level 2 Sakuta. The Sakuta has the advantage of bringing the Mai out at level 2 while the vent is much more cost effective.

The reason that the level 3 Mai is noteworthy is that it can be a potential double burn on the turn it’s played out. It has an on play mill 2 effect which burns for one damage for each level 2 of higher card milled and the climax combo burns for one on attack. Another thing to note is that the card is 3 soul to begin with and with the climax attached, you can side for precision damage plus the burn. The Mai also gets an additional power buff from the Sakuta- an additional 1000 power along with the level assist power. This also buffs the other Mai level 3 discussed earlier as well.

The other noteworthy card in the package is the level 0 Mai which has uses even outside the combo. The check 3 effect on reverse is great for any deck since it can help set up combos, discard excessive climaxes, and help you cycle through your deck.

Overall, this combo is an interesting backbone to a deck though not without a few downsides. To run all six options at max copies is certainly too much deck space to consume and the cost of summoning the Mai with can get expensive and it is hard to bring multiples out at once via the Memory mechanic. However, the level 0 Mai, level 2 Sakuta and level 3 Mai combo are still useful even if you can’t spam the Memory route to play Mai. I’ve had fun playing with this deck type and encourage you to try it out.

SBY/W64-052   黄昏の夕空 梓川 かえで
Kaede Azusagawa, Twilight Sky

Traits: 思春期 (Adolescence), 動物 (Animal)

[C] If you have 4 or more ::Adolescence:: Characters, this gets -1 Level while in your hand.
[A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, reveal the top card of your Library. If it’s Level 1 or lower, put it in your Stock. (Climax cards are considered Level 0 for this effect. Otherwise put it back where it was)
[A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, you may put the top card of your Clock in your Waiting Room.

This is one of two early play level 3s in the set and the one with the easiest condition to fulfill. This is the one of choice in most decks due to it’s chance of only costing one stock to play in a relatively high stock cost set. It is also an early play heal which is always welcome in any circumstances. It’s major downside is that is is really week in power requiring support to even hit 10k power which can troublesome even at level 2. It is a card that certainly be useful but not the strongest card out there.

Traits: 思春期 (Adolescence), 動物 (Animal)

Together With Nasuno
[A] When this is placed from hand to the Climax Zone, perform the [Standby Icon] effect.

This is considered by many to be the best midgame combo that the set has to offer. The standby climax (which lets you play a character up to one level above your current level on the stage rested when played or triggered) can be a very powerful climax effect. That alone in the right deck makes this worth playing but what makes this special is that the Kaede can also salvage a character to hand on reverse with the combo. A plussing standby combo is rare abd gives you change to sculpt your field for not hand cost with the standby and setup up your hand at the same time. This is a pretty powerful combination of effects. It does dictate the type of deck you play to maximize it’s use but is a good combo regardless.

SBY/W64-078   小悪魔な後輩 古賀 朋絵

Traits: 思春期 (Adolescence), スマホ (Smartphone)

[C] ASSIST All your ::Adolescence:: Characters in front of this gain +2000 Power.
[A] [Discard a card from your hand to the Waiting Room] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, you may pay cost. If so, put the top card of your Clock in your Stock.
[S] [(5)] If all players are Level 3 or higher, all players put the top 4 cards of their Clock to their Waiting Room.

This is a strong level 3 assist that can potentially played early via the standby mechanic. The addition of 2000 power is huge for many level 3s especially in this set since reverses are necessary for many of the endgame effects and even if not required 2000 power can really help clear an opponents board which can be a win. The heal from Clock to stock is a strong effect. It gets around anti-heal effects and can allow you to field extra characters or help to pay for their effects. One “extra” stock may not seem like a lot but that stock or lack of it could make a game changing difference. As for the third effect, it is quite expensive and only really useful if you have more damage than your opponent (say 4 vs 2) and need to buy an extra turn. Overall. It is a nice complementary piece to any decks endgame strategy and can be helpful in many scenarios.

And now for one more card.

SBY/W64-P02   夏の思い出 桜島 麻衣
Mai Sakurajima, Summer Memories

Traits: 思春期 (Adolescence), 料理 (Cuisine)

[A] [Put an ::Adolescence:: Character card from your hand in Clock] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, you may pay cost. If so, look at up to 3 cards from top of your Library, choose up to 1 of them and put it in your hand, and put the rest in the Waiting Room.

This promo is a great option for the early game. With only a cost of clocking a character from hand (which is a small cost in the early game) you can grab any card from the top 3 cards of the deck. Three cards is not a lot a lot but the trade off is getting events and climaxes which is huge. Grabbing that level 1 combo climax or that event you need is huge for many decks. And since there are some good events and climax combos in the set having a chance to get those difficult to grab cards is always a plus. Or even trading a level 3 for a level 0 or 1 card that you need immediately is also good. I would certainly give this card a try in a deck.

Rascal Does not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai has a lot of interesting and cool cards/combos. While the set is not by any means a broken all powerful set, it has a lot of versatility and can cater to multiple play styles. This set has been released in English as well, so if you are looking for an alternative to SAO or AOT this is a nice option there. Of course, I will be discussing the Dreaming Booster which adds additional options in a later post. So if you are a fan of the series and are looking for a fun deck to play, I would recommend giving the set a try.

And that concludes my set overview for Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. What do you think of the set? What cards combo did you find interesting and fun?
