Greetings! After a long break from doing set overviews,  I am back with the continuation of the Konosuba Vol 2. set overview. This is especially important to complete as it has been announced that the set will be coming to English with a TBD release date. I know it has been a while since part 1 (Weiss Schwarz Set Overview: Konosuba Vol 2- Part 1: Red)  and I apologize for that. This time, I will exploring the blue cards focusing on the wonderful goddesses Aqua and Eris. Let’s get started!

“Running Off” Aqua
(Goddess)
[A] CX COMBO [(1)] When the Battle Opponent of this becomes Reversed, if “In the Name of the Goddess” is in your Climax Zone, you may pay cost. If so, look at up to 3 cards from top of your Library and search for up to 3 Characters with either ::Adventurer::, ::Goddess::, or ::Axis Cultist::, reveal them, put them in your hand, and put the rest in the Waiting Room.
In the Name of the Goddess
Trait 1: None   Trait 2: None
[A] When this is placed from hand to the Climax Zone, choose up to 2 of your BLUE Characters, and they gain +3000 Power and +1 Soul for the turn.

Aqua fans can rejoice as she gets her own midgame climax combo. The combo in itself is actually quite good. While it is an on reverse combo, you don’t have to pay for the ability in advance. The stock cost can be used to pay out triggered climaxes as well. Aqua should have no problems achieving the reverse requirement either as the climax alone can pump Aqua up to a very sizable 8000 power before assists and other effects. The payoff is also quite worth it as well as the one stock can net you 3 characters. This also can allow you the option of not having to triple field Aqua to get max value out of playing the climax.

There are a couple of things to consider with this combo though. First, the climax only pumps Blue characters meaning that in multicolor decks the climax can be a bit of dead play (though admittedly if you are not pumping Aqua then you are in trouble anyway). The combo effect also doesn’t let you search your deck and leaves you at the mercy of the top 3 cards.  There also is a slim chance that you can pay the stock and hit 3 climaxes or hit 3 useless cards. The stock cost does hurt a bit considering the stock demands of the late game, but if it nets you three attackers for a future turn then it would be worth it. Overall though, this combo is a nice addition to the set.

“Beautiful Goddess of Water” Aqua
(Goddess)
[C] If you have 4 or more Characters with either ::Adventurer::, ::Goddess::, or ::Axis Cultist::, this gets -1 Level while in your hand.
[C] During your turn, if all your Characters are either ::Adventurer::, ::Goddess::, or ::Axis Cultist::, this gains +2000 Power.
[A] [Discard a card from your hand to the Waiting Room] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, you may pay cost. If so, put the top card of your Clock in your Stock.

Next up we have an early play option. The early play option is incredibly easy- basically running this in any deck with those 3 traits means you should be able to summon this early every game. As for the other 2 effects, they are not too bad at all. The power pump means that it attacks at least 11000 power which is not shabby. It is also really weak on defense. A power level of 9000 is not high at all and it will easily be taken down on the back swing. The heal effect is really nice though. This heal effect gets around anti-heal, nets and additional stock, effectively making this a cost 1 character. The real main issue with the card is deck space. Most of the deck types already have an early play which works better with the deck or just does more for you.  This card is a decent level option it is just outclassed by other level 3s in the set.

Eris in Swimsuit
Trait 1: 女神 (Goddess)   Trait 2: None
[C] ASSIST All your Characters in front of this gain +500 Power.
[S] [(1) Rest this] Reveal the top card of your Library. If it’s a Character with either ::Adventurer:: or ::Goddess::, put it in your hand. (Otherwise put it back where it was)

A new assist option, this Eris has a secondary effect which can be useful in the right scenario. If you know you are out of climaxes for example, you can pay 1 stock to add the top card of your deck to your hand. That is certainly not a bad thing. It is a bit more risky at other stages but at it’s worst it is a top check for the stock.  The 500 power assist is standard fare- not much to right home about there. Overall, though a solid option especially for the “Goddess” decks.

“Salvation of the Soul” Aqua
(Goddess)
[A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, reveal the top card of your Library. If it’s a Character with either ::Adventurer::, ::Goddess::, or ::Axis Cultist::, put it in your hand and discard a card from your hand to the Waiting Room. (Otherwise put it back where it was)
[A] [(2)] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, you may pay cost. If so, return all cards in your Waiting Room to your Library and shuffle your Library.

This card is a very nice utility option with effects that are useful in both the early and late game. The top check effect covers quite a few traits meaning that it can be used in multiple deck types. Also top check effects while simple can be quite useful for hand fixing or helping you to mill cards from the deck. The second effect allows you to trigger a penalty less refresh (Note: The 2 cards from stock do go in to the waiting room before the effect happens). The refresh ability can be useful in a pinch- it can save games where you are in climax trouble early. A nice card with 2 useful effects.

“Power of Magic Is Part of Luck” Aqua
(Goddess)
[C] During your Opponent’s turn, all your other Characters gain +500 Power.
[S] BRAINSTORM [(1) Rest 2 of your Characters] Flip over the top 4 cards of your Library and put them in the Waiting Room. If there is at least 1 ‘”Walking on the Street” Axis Cultist’ among them, choose a Character in your Waiting Room with either ::Goddess:: or ::Axis Cultist:: and return it to your hand.
“Fist of Fury” Aqua
(Goddess)
[A] When this is placed from hand to the Stage, draw up to 2 cards, and discard a card from your hand to the Waiting Room.
[A] At the start of your Climax Phase, choose up to 3 ‘”Walking on the Street” Axis Cultist’ in your Waiting Room and put them face-up under this as Markers in any order.
[A] CX COMBO When this attacks, if “Fury of the Goddess” is in the Climax Zone, your Opponent puts the top X cards of his or her Library in the Waiting Room. If there is at least 1 Climax card among them, choose a Level 3 or lower Character Opposite this and put it in Clock. X = # of Markers under this.
[A] At the end of the turn, put all Markers from under this in the Waiting Room.
Fury of the Goddess
Trait 1: None   Trait 2: None
[C] All your Characters gain +1000 Power and +1 Soul.
“Walking on the Street” Axis Cultist
(Axis Cultist)   Trait 2: None
[C] You may have as many copies of cards with the same name as this in your deck.
[C] All your other ‘”Walking on the Street” Axis Cultist’ and ‘”Happy Smile” Axis Cultist’ gain +1500 Power.
“Happy Smile” Axis Cultist
(Axis Cultist)   Trait 2: None
[A] When this attacks, choose a Character in your Opponent’s Front Row that isn’t ::Axis Cultist::, and that Character gets -1000 Power for the turn.
Axis Doctrine
Trait 1: None   Trait 2: None
Draw up to 2 cards, discard a card from your hand to the Waiting Room, and choose up to 3 ‘”Walking on the Street” Axis Cultist’ in your Waiting Room and put them face-up under your ‘”Fist of Fury” Aqua’ as Markers in any order.

This sequence of cards shows the backbone of a new deck type introduced in this set. Konosuba gets an “army” deck (a deck where the theme is centered around a card/cards that you can run infinite copies of- usually resulting in an endgame payoff). The Axis Cultist cards are the center of this deck and the cards are actually pretty solid. Typically the idea behind such decks is that you spam the army card which is typically a beater in the early/midgame and use the same cards as part of a level 3 combo. These cards fulfill the beater role quite well. The level 0 cards can reach 7000 power with a full field and one of the level 1s can reach 10k in terms of power. These cards serve the early game purpose of the deck type- to simply spam costless beaters.

The thing that determines the value of such a strategy and deck though is the payoff for running these cards. This includes having ways to get the cards on to the field and a game ending option at level 3. Fortunately, this combo has both of those things. The level 3 punishes those decks which has achieved extreme compression by allowing a clock kick which yields guaranteed damage. To get the markers needed, the level 3 gives you a mean to add them on play. The event also allows for a second method of adding the cards as well. In the early game, the brainstormer effect helps to sustain the field you need by giving you a recovery option for the cultist cards.  All in all it is a solid package and an interesting deck option.

“A Secret Between Us” Eris
Trait 1: 女神 (Goddess)   Trait 2: None
[C] During your Opponent’s turn, all your other Characters with either ::Adventurer:: or ::Goddess:: gain +1000 Power.
[A] CX COMBO [(1)] When “Well, Have A Safe Trip” is placed in your Climax Zone, you may pay cost. If so, choose a Character in your Waiting Room with either ::Adventurer:: or ::Goddess:: and return it to your hand.
Well, Have A Safe Trip
Trait 1: None   Trait 2: None
[C] All your Characters gain +1000 Power and +1 Soul.

Eris gets another climax combo and this one certainly has it’s pros and cons. The pros include having the ability to salvage any character from the waiting room. It also doesn’t require a reverse to activate and can get around anti-salvage effects because of the timing of the effect (Many anti salvage effects trigger during the attack step- this combo triggers during the climax phase.)

It’s cons kind of break the usefullness of the card combo a bit. The Eris is best suited as a backrow character meaning that you might have to play this over a a brainstormer in the backrow. The effect also has a cost and that stock is useful in the later stages of the game especially if you want to run the Eris re-stander from set one. The downsides are enough to make it tough to recommend this combo. The truth is that there are multiple better combos for the “Goddess” deck or the “Adventurer” deck than this- one of them is even costed (The Aqua).

“Purification” Aqua
(Goddess)
[A] [(2)] When you use the BACKUP of this, you may pay cost. If so, choose 1 of your Characters in battle, and that Character gains the following ability for the turn. “[C] All Characters in your Opponent’s Library lose all traits.”
[S] [Counter] BACKUP 1000, Level 1 [Discard this card from your hand to the Waiting Room]

This card can be a fun way to troll an opponent given the right circumstances. Basically what this card can allow you to do is to stop any effect where your opponent can pull cards the deck during the attack step such as via climax combos. It can potentially mess with an opponents ability to plus. Because this is counter effect, it only applies to those effects which would trigger after the card is played. The card is a bit of a trap though as it can be played around. Decks which have a salvage combo aren’t effected by this. This also does not stop on attack combos especially on the first attack. Also if the deck is running an on attack combo- they can simply side attack which does not allow the counter step to even occur. Also, Konosuba is a bit of a stock heavy set especially for it’s endgame costs so the 2 stock might want to be saved for late game. Not a bad card, just situational.

Power of Purification
Trait 1: None   Trait 2: None
[Counter] Choose 1 of your Opponent’s Level 1 or lower Characters and Rest it.

Finally, we have an event counter. A handful of sets have rest counters and these counters can be a powerful tool to have in one’s arsenal. By resting a character, you can effectively stop an attack. Subtracting one attack can make all of the difference in winning or losing the game. However, this card’s effect is restricted to Level 1 or lower characters meaning that it is nowhere near as good as it could be. The odds are good that the only level 1 or lower characters on your opponents’ stage will be in the backrow at the time they reach level 3. And even if they have a level 1 character on the field, an opponent can simply attack with that first rendering the counter useless. The set has better counter options than this to play honestly.

That concludes part 2 of my set overview for Konosuba vol 2. For Part 1, click here (Weiss Schwarz Set Overview: Konosuba Vol 2- Part 1: Red). What do you think of the cards? Any interesting cards that I didn’t discuss? Please comment below or message on Twitter (@railgunfan75) or Facebook (Railgunfan75’s Geek Blog). The final part for the yellow portion of the set will be coming soon (shouldn’t be months I hope). So until next time, this is Railgunfan75 signing off! See you soon and stay geeky my friends!
