Greetings ordinary humans! This week on Weiss Schwarz Wednesdays, I have this blogs’ second post on the Haruhi set. This week I have decided to feature one of my Haruhi decks in honor of the release of the English version. This deck could be best described as a Haruhi waifu build. It is important to note that all of the cards in this deck are from the full booster, as such all of these cards are now available in English. So without any further delay. DECK STRATEGY

Level 0 has some fun options. The level 0 reverser or Center of the World Haruhi are nice first turn plays. The assist is useful from the get go as it also provides a means to pay out any early triggered gate climaxes. If possible using Kyon to change one of the lvl 0 characters to “Usual Haruhi” is not a bad play either as the card will run over pretty much any level 0 character and start gaining you hand and stock advantage via it’s effect.

At Level 1, the game plan is to hopefully have 1 or 2 “Usual: Haruhi in hand and using it’s memory ability to maintain handsize and to keep a field presence on your turn. Christmas Party Haruhi and Kyon, Super Editor Haruhi,  and Hot Springs Haruhi can help to make to make this happen with the power buffs they can provide. The 2 stock is a worthwhile cost for Christmas Party as the 1000 global boost can make a huge difference in certain matchups. If you have neither of these cards, the event can be used to search out the cards you need. In addition the event does serve as a quasi brainstorm effect by taking out 2 potential damage from the deck. This level takes a little bit of strategy as the power levels are below average.

Level 2 is all about building stock and setting up for the end game. Haruhi’s Victory Declaration can be used as a brainstorm and as a means to bring put the deck’s level 3. Ina addition, the climax combo with SOS Brigade Leader Haruhi can be used to bring out another copy of itself to add another two soul attacker of the global assist if you don’t have it already.

At Level 3 the strategy is a simple one. Use Trouble Girl Haruhi to heal and it’s climax combo to push for extra damage. If Trouble Girl is not available, you can use Super Editor in Chief Haruhi to salvage Trouble Girl or deal an additional damage. Besides that attacking with the costless level 0’s and 1’s to deal soul damage is the plan. The Kyon’s Sister brainstorm works great here as well as it’s brainstorm can taget itself and that card can deal additional soul damage or potentially side for game. The event also comes in handy here as the search effect could help to compress to get to those critical cancels.

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES

The deck is strongest when it can pull off it’s gameplan at level 0 and level 1. The lvl 0 assist allows you to immediately pay out salvage climaxes and get rid of troublesome early and mid game characters. With the prevalence of reversers in the game today, this is a useful tool. When you can get one or two “Usual” Haruhi abilities off this will help you to maintain hand sizer and generate stock for the late game. If this is repeated for multiple turns then hand size or field presence won’t be a problem. Fortunately, the deck does have options for getting this card in play. The global assist  and the level 0 reverser allows for some sustainability in certain situations and makes the mid game viable. The endgame has a great game ending option with Trouble Girl Haruhi which not only heals but is able to deal extra damage for no additional stock cost. If that card is unable to be played, Super Editor Haruhi is a nice alternative to either salvage a character or to deal the final damage.

The weaknesses of this deck are characteristic of the set itself. Due to the age of the set, the power curve of the deck does not keep up with many of the top sets. As such to play this deck, one has to be a little more selective as to what cards to play when. In addition, the deck is pretty stock intensive as there are a lot of costed characters and effects. This deck can suffer more than some decks when it is climax screwed as it’s brainstorm cards can’t be searched out. The traits also can be an issue for this deck as there is no effective way to search the lvl 2 changer or the level 3. Because of this if you don’t trigger the salvage climax or draw into these cards, the endgame can be difficult to execute.

The deck overall is a lot of fun to play. While it can be inconsistent as many waifu centric decks are, it does have some great tools to work with and can win some games for you. There are great card combos to be pulled of with this deck and the shenanigans are fitting of a deck based of the Haruhi series. If you are looking for a fun deck, give this deck type a try.
